Algerian War 1954-1962
The Algerian War was an armed conflict over Algeria's independence from France. It began on November 1, 1954 with terrorist actions and guerrilla attacks by the National Liberation Front FLN. France retained the upper hand militarily, but came under criticism for high war casualties, human rights violations and the use of torture methods. The war ended on March 19, 1962, with the Évian Accords (March 18) and a negotiated settlement that resulted in Algerian independence led by the FLN.
